Together Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

We present a test for those in enduring partnerships who enjoy scary movies: Settle in with your loved one and watch Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its launch on a streaming platform on the Hulu service. At first glance, it may seem like conventional biological terror, but beneath Together resides a profound contemplation about the ways we decide to love each other.

An Introductory Film Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together represents the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as a couple named Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have stayed together for over ten years. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, the actors infuse a particular energy to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The story starts when Tim and Millie move from the metropolis to the rural area for Millie’s job. A commonly used narrative setup, sure, but that’s mostly where the cliches end. Together transforms into as much a psychological exploration of the couple's dynamic as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their rural residence, a tempest descends, and Millie and Tim fall into an underground cave. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity begins influencing the couple. This force compels a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond emotional intimacy.

The entire film is a slow burn horror experience, weaving in bits of hallucinatory nightmares, unsettling (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes amidst something horrific). The director weaves these elements together expertly and delivers them in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A significant portion of Together is solely the two lead actors, and they deftly portray countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and feeling of intimacy is waning due to a emotional and physical gap. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to focus on anything other than his floundering music career inexorably rises.

Conversely, Tim senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and distant from his network of friends. He is terrified of the concept of totally forfeiting his individual identity in his partner. This fear is amplified by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie never makes one partner or the other the obvious villain.

Tim and Millie confront the type of challenges that come with any relationship over a long period. Fundamentally, they continue to care for each other. They share moments of joy, comfort one another, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these concerns of excessive reliance and giving oneself over to another person, the metaphor never feels clumsy or self-important. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes offer a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the frights and the fights serve the other in harmony.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which is best experienced firsthand, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that those not in relationships have seen the movie as a powerful case for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, some couples who were in conflict found that the film actually helped them resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own response could function as a great barometer of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you recognize your own traits in either protagonist and scream at your TV, or simply look at your other half and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can embark on at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform at present.
